Capital Concert Series at Lincoln Theatre

Capital Launches Concert Series at Historic Lincoln Theatre

Capital University will launch a concert series this month at the King-Lincoln District’s historic Lincoln Theatre, continuing its outreach to Columbus neighborhoods.

The concert series will showcase performances by Capital’s distinguished Conservatory of Music students and faculty members in a variety of genres, including opera/musical theatre, jazz, contemporary—fusion, MIDI and rock, and a gospel mass performed by the university’s renowned Chapel Choir.

The series will open with three performances of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Iolanthe by Capital’s Opera/Music Theatre program, under the direction of Associate Professor of Voice Mark Baker. Performances dates are 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, and Saturday, Jan. 30, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 31.

On Sunday, Feb. 21, at 3:30 p.m., concert-goers will be treated to Jazz with a Capital J, featuring Jazz Consort, under the direction of Mark Flugge; Spectrum, Capital’s faculty jazz ensemble, coordinated by Michael Cox; and the Big Band, directed by Lou Fischer.

In its final month, Capital at the Lincoln will celebrate sounds of the new and the traditional with two concerts—one featuring the Conservatory’s contemporary music ensembles and the series finale featuring the glorious sounds of the Capital University Chapel Choir.

Contemporary music will be performed by Fusion Band, with Fischer again directing; MIDI Band, directed by Chad Loughrige; and Rock Ensemble, under the direction of Mark Lochstampfor at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 14.

Chapel Choir, under the direction of Lynda Hasseler, will close the series the following Sunday, March 28, at 3:30 p.m. with its much anticipated performance of Robert Ray’s Gospel Mass.
